Precast Concrete Piling

Precast concrete piling is generally the lowest cost piling system suitable for most soil conditions and almost all sites, even inner city. Noise and vibration is not a problem as the rigs are specifically designed for residential areas. This system not only costs less than continuous flight auger piling (cfa - the most common type in the UK) but is cleaner, safer, faster, less risky, and does not need an excavator in attendance and there is no spoil to remove.

Our 200mm sq piles are suitable for loads up to 400kN. They are manufactured in 3,4,5,6 and 7m segments coupled together with interference fit joints that have been tested up to 50kN in tension. Our rigs are relatively lightweight specifically designed for residential areas with outriggers so that they are highly stable and safe to work on restricted access sites with nominal piling mats.

 

Heavy Wall Steel Tubular Piling

Steel tubular piles are structural steel piles, where the steel is load bearing. Not to be confused with cased concrete piles, where the steel is only a permeant formwork to form a concrete pile. The steel is a re-cycled product from the North Sea oil industry, hence environmentally friendly. They have all the advantages of precast concrete piles over CFA piles, with the added benefit that they can be used to chisel through most obstructions, although this is reflected in their cost.

We drive 140mm and 177mm dia, 8-12mm wall thickness, high yield (552-655N/mm2) steel tubes for loads of up to 350kN and 500kN respectively. We drive them in 3-7m segments with full strength threaded couplers. They can resist up to 50kN horizontal load in ideal conditions but are customarily limited to 15 and 30kN respectively.

Cast in Situ Concrete Ground Beams

We can design and construct cast in situ ground beams for houses and flats, typically with spans of up to 6m for 450mm wide 450-600mm deep sections, fully reinforced in accordance with the current codes of practice.

The advantages of cast in situ beams over precast are mainly lower cost and improved flexibility, especially if the piles are deflected out of tolerance. Cast in situ beams are often quicker for smaller contracts, as there is a much shorter lead time. However, if lead time is not an issue then precast concrete can be quicker for a large project with many duplications of housing types.

 

Precast Concrete Ground Beams

We can design and construct precast concrete ground beams for houses and flats, typically 400mm sq., fully reinforced in accordance with current codes with spans of up to 6m.

The main advantage of precast beams is that they are much quicker for a large project and they can be cheaper on projects with many duplications of house types, such as social housing.

   

 

Mini Piling

We offer three types of mini piling. The best choice depends on access, piles loads and the size of the project.

- Cast in situ with D1000.

- Cast in situ with hand held Grundomat hammer.

- Top drive up silent hammer up to 200kN 

Timber Piling

We have the resources to drive timber piling for foundations or beach protection. Timber foundation piles are highly sustainable, as they sequester carbon out of the atmosphere and deposit it in the ground from a renewable source. Timber is also much cheaper than concrete or steel. However, it is only feasible for projects with a reliably high water table, otherwise the timber would rot.
